Types of betting bonus: complete guide
Not all bonuses work the same way. Knowing the differences lets you choose the one best suited to your habits and avoid nasty surprises when you withdraw.
1. Welcome bonus on first deposit
It is the most widespread type of bonus. The bookmaker tops up your first deposit by a percentage, usually 100%, up to a preset maximum.

→ 5× rollover on the bonus = you must bet €500 (€100 × 5) on events with odds ≥ 1.75

What to check: what the rollover applies to (bonus only or deposit+bonus), the minimum odds of qualifying bets, included/excluded sports, whether multiples count or only singles, the time within which to complete the rollover.
2. No deposit bonus
The bookmaker gives you free credit just for registering, with no deposit. It is the rarest type of bonus but also the most appreciated by players because it lets you test the platform at zero risk.
Warning: no deposit bonuses almost always have a much higher rollover than deposit bonuses (10×–20×). Read carefully before accepting them.
3. Free bet
A free bet is different from credit bonus. You are granted a free bet on a specific event: if you win, you receive the net winnings (odds minus the stake). If you lose, you have lost nothing.
→ Bet won: you receive (3.00 − 1) × €10 = 20€ (net winnings only, not the stake)
→ Bet lost: you lose nothing (the stake was free)
Note: if you win €20 from a free bet, you do not receive the €10 stake as happens with real money.
Free bets are often offered as a "second chance" promotion (refunded as a free bet if the first bet loses) or as a weekly promotion. They are much simpler to use than bonuses with rollover because they do not require additional wagering requirements.
4. Matched casino bonus
Many bookmakers offer a double package: a sports bonus on the first deposit + a casino bonus on a second deposit. They are two separate bonuses with separate conditions. Generally the casino bonus has a higher rollover (20×–40×) and is not interchangeable with the sports one.

How rollover works: the definitive guide
Il rollover (also called wagering requirement or playthrough) is the most important condition to understand before accepting any bonus. It is the trap that most players who fail to withdraw the bonus fall into.

Rollover on the bonus vs rollover on deposit+bonus: the difference is huge. With a €100 bonus and a 5× rollover:
- Rollover on bonus only → bets required: €100 × 5 = 500€
- Rollover on deposit+bonus → bets required: €200 × 5 = 1.000€
Bets on events with odds below the required minimum (usually 1.40–2.00) do not count toward the rollover. Voided bets do not count. On many bookmakers live bets count only 50%.

Choose the bookmaker and read the T&C
Before registering, read the bonus conditions: rollover, minimum odds, qualifying bets, excluded sports, time limit. Look for the "Terms and Conditions" or "Bonus Terms" section on the bookmaker site. If you cannot find them, do not register.
Register with the bonus option active
During registration, make sure to select the option that activates the welcome bonus. Some bookmakers require entering a promo code. If you do not tick the option at registration, you may not receive the bonus.
Verify your document (KYC)

5 mistakes to avoid with betting bonuses
Not reading the conditions
The most common and most costly mistake. The bonus T&C contain everything: rollover, minimum odds, excluded sports, time limit. Spend 5 minutes on them before registering.
Depositing more than necessary
If the bonus is "100% up to €100", depositing €200 does not give you €200 of bonus but only €100. The excess is not credited. Deposit exactly the maximum amount covered by the bonus.
Using an excluded payment method
Some prepaid cards, PaySafeCard or specific e-wallets do not qualify for the bonus. Check the valid methods in the T&C section before making the deposit.
Betting on odds that are too low
Bets on events with odds below the required minimum (e.g. 1.40) do not count toward the rollover. You are betting but not progressing toward withdrawing the bonus.
Trying to withdraw before the rollover
If you try to withdraw before completing the requirement, the bookmaker voids the bonus and in some cases resets the account to the value of the deposit only. Always check progress before requesting a withdrawal.
